Midnight Devil is a substantial original work on a solid wood slab. This piece is a reclamation of the superstition that "the devil comes out at midnight," a phrase often used as a curfew threat to control behavior. She is a bold, sassy representation of autonomy and the refusal to be governed by fear. This piece carries a specific weight in digital history as well, as its content caused the permanent loss of the artist's first TikTok account.
The figure was created using pyrography and thinned rosewood stain for shading against a natural wood grain. She is housed in a custom, black acrylic laser cut frame that was puzzled together to extend outward from the piece, creating a multi-dimensional effect.
